I started the Sunday morning in Turku with a morning sightseeing run:) ... Jag började söndagsmorgonen i Åbo med en sightseeing-morgonjogg i Åbo:) ...           ... while Marcus and Chiara were in the gym. ... medan Marcus och Chiara var i gymmet.   Then we enjoyed a great breakfast ... Därefter njöt vi av en god frukost ...  ... before we started a long day of sightseeing. ... innan vi började en lång dag av sightseeing.    Turku castle: very much to see, but unfortunately it was a bit too much for us in the end. Åbo slott: väldigt mycket att se, men tyvärr blev det lite förmycket för oss i slutändan.        After visiting the castle we took the small Föri ferry to the other side of the river Aurajoki for some lunch on the boat Bruno II, and there we enjoyed the lovely warm weather. Efter att ha besökt slottet tog vi den lilla Föri-färjan till andra sidan Aura å för lunch på båten Bruno II, och där njöt vi av det härliga, varma vädret.     After the lunch we continued our walk to Klosterbacken open air museum, where you could experience how Turku was in the past. A very nice place, but unfortunately we wer already a bit tired when we got there from the boost of information from the castle visit. Efter lunchen fortsatte vi vår promenad till Klosterbackens friluftsmuseum, där man kunde uppleva hur Åbo var förr i tiden. Ett väldigt trevligt ställe, men tyvärr var vi redan lite trötta när vi kom dit efter informationsboosten från slottsbesöket.        We finished our Sunday in Turku at Kupittaanoiusto playground, a very nice place with several different playgrounds in one big beautiful park. In the near there is also a traffic park, which we will try to visit next time, since unfortunately we didn't have time this time. Vi avslutade vår söndag i Åbo på Äventyrsparken lekplats/Kuppisparken, ett väldigt fint ställe med flera olika lekplatser i en stor vacker park. I närheten finns också en trafikpark, som vi ska försöka besöka nästa gång, då vi tyvärr inte hade tid den här gången.    Turku Cathedral Åbo domkyrka  Except for running races, we also had time to do other things when we were in Turku; sightseeing, visiting different playgrounds, eating nice food and do some more training. Förutom att springa lopp hann vi också med en hel del annat när vi var i Åbo; sightseeing, besöka olika lekplatser, äta god mat och lite mer träning.  On Saturday when Marcus was running half marathon I and Chiara walked to one of the playgrounds beside the river and spent some time there before going back to the finish when Marcus was approching the finish line. Afterwards we took a stroll on the square, went to the hotel for some food and a shower, and then we head to Museomäen playground for some play time, before ending the evening with dinner at the hotel. På lördagen när Marcus sprang halvmaraton gick jag och Chiara till en av lekplatserna bredvid floden och tillbringade lite tid där innan vi gick tillbaka till målet när Marcus närmade sig. Efteråt tog vi en promenad på torget, gick till hotellet för lite mat och en dusch, och sedan begav vi oss till Museibackens lekplats för lite lek, innan vi avslutade kvällen med middag på hotellet. During the two day long spring festival you have the chance to visit different farms on Åland, enjoy the nature, meet different animals and buy local produce. On Saturday I, Chiara, my mother and my aunt were visiting two farms, Västerro and Haddnäs Gård, and on Sunday I, Chiara and Marcus visited two other farms, Gård Syrenbacken and Mickels Gård. Förra helgen ägde Åland Grönskar rum. Under den två dagar långa vårfesten har du möjlighet att besöka olika gårdar på Åland, njuta av naturen, träffa på olika djur och köpa lokala råvaror. På lördagen besökte jag, Chiara, min mamma och min moster två gårdar, Västerro och Haddnäs Gård, och på söndagen besökte jag, Chiara och Marcus två andra gårdar, Gård Syrenbacken och Mickels Gård.  Västerro Västerro is a small business with small-scale fish processing, fish sales, and a smokehouse. Here you can buy different fish, stroll past grapevines, take a coffee by the water, or enjoy the fish buffet. We didn't try it, but I think the menu looked interesting and price of 28 EUR quite okay. It was the first time I visited this place, and although it was nice to see and a nice place, I think that you can skip it if you aren't coming for maybe the buffet. Västerro är en liten gård med fiskförädling, fiskförsäljning och rökeri i liten skala. Här kan man köpa fisk, strosa förbi vinrankor, ta en kaffe vid vattnet eller njuta av fiskbuffén. Vi provade inte buffén, men jag tyckte menyn såg intressant ut och priset på 28 euro var ändå helt okej. Det var första gången jag besökte platsen, och även om det var fint att se och en trevligt plats, tycker jag nog att man kan hoppa över det om man inte kommer för buffén.     Haddnäs Gård Haddnäs Gård is a farm with beef cattle and trotting horses. Here we strolled along the beautiful path (or you go with the tractor trailer) to the coastal meadows while we were looking for the balance course and outdoor playground listed in the guide. But it turned out that due to the wind they had unfortunately not fixed any of them. Although Chiara was quite disappointed I think she liked throwing down apples, and especially, the horse riding that was organized instead. I think that it was a very nice visit to Haddnäs Gård, but it really felt that they could have done so much more by small and simple things. Haddnäs Gård är en gård med nötkreatur och travhästar. Här gick vi längs den vackra vägen (man kan också få skjuts på traktorsläpet) ner till strandängarna medan vi letade efter balansbanan och utomhuslekplatsen som fanns med i programbladet. Men det visade sig att de på grund av vinden tyvärr inte hade fixat någon av dem. Även om Chiara var ganska besviken tror jag att hon gillade att kasta prick på äpplena, och speciellt ridningen som ordnades istället. Jag tycker att det var ett riktigt mysigt besök till Haddnäs Gård, men det kändes verkligen som de kunde ha gjort så mycket mer med enkla medel.            Gård Syrenbacken Gård Syrenbacken is a very nice farm with different animals, a café, a farm museum and lots of different activities for children. Here we met horses, goats, a turtle, rabbits, pigs, goats and cows, and took part in the many activities they had fixed, very nice arrangement. The favourite part for Chiara was the treasure hunt, where you should find different stations on a map, solve the mathematical problems and then use the answers to open the code lock at the treasure chest. Gård Syrenbacken är en väldigt trevlig gård med olika djur, ett kafé, ett gårdsmuseum och massor av olika aktiviteter för barn. Här träffade vi på hästar, getter, en sköldpadda, kaniner, grisar, getter och kor, och deltog i de många aktiviteter de hade fixat, väldigt mysigt ordnat. Favoriten för Chiara var skattjakten, där man skulle hitta olika stationer på en karta, lösa matematiska problem och sedan använda svaren för att öppna kodlåset vid skattkistan.             Mickels Gård Mickels Gård is one of the farms we visit almost every year on either Åland Spring Fair or Åland Harvest Festival. Here you can meet cows, sheep, hens, chickens, rabbits and goats. You can also buy different products from the farm. Chiara had hoped that they should have had hay bales to jump on (as they often have), but I think that she thought that the new climbing cow was quite fun too:) Marcus and my favourites were the very cute small lambs. Mickels Gård är en av gårdarna vi besöker nästan varje år under antingen Åland Grönskar eller Skördefesten. Här kan man träffa kor, får, hönor, kycklingar, kaniner och getter. Man kan också köpa med sig olika produkter från gården. Chiara hade hoppats att de skulle ha haft höbalar att hoppa på (som de ofta har), men jag tror hon tyckte att den nya klätterkon var rätt rolig den också :) Marcus och mina favoriter var de väldigt söta små lammen.        We are probably living on the best place when it comes to great playgrounds in the near – for both children and adults:) Vi bor nog på det bästa stället när det kommer till fantastiska lekplatser i närheten – för både barn och vuxna:) Toblach/Dobbiaco      Niederdorf/Villabassa        Niederdorf/Villabassa: playground with mini zoo   Welsberg/Monguelfo        Alanya Kalesi (Alanya castle) is situated very beautifully on a 250 meters high cliff. The castle which was built in the 13th century is surrounded by a 6k long wall, and inside you can find ruins of cisterns, towers etc. The part towards the coast requires a ticket, but a quite big part is free to visit. The area free to visit includes ruins, a mosque, the old bazaar and lots of old houses, nowadays serving as residential buildings, shops, cafés and restaurants. All these things are very interesting to experience, but one more thing, maybe more beautiful than the rest, is the amazing view towards the ocean. Alanya Kalesi (Alanyas borg) ligger mycket vackert på en 250 meter hög klippa. Slottet som byggdes på 1200-talet är omgivet av en 6 km lång mur, och inuti kan du hitta ruiner av cisterner, torn etc. Att besöka delen mot kusten kostar, men en ganska stor del är gratis att besöka. Området som är fritt att besöka inkluderar ruiner, en moské, den gamla basaren och massor av gamla hus, som numera fungerar som bostadshus, butiker, caféer och restauranger. Alla dessa saker är väldigt intressanta att upptäcka, men det finns en sak till, kanske vackrare än allt det andra, är den fantastiska utsikten över havet.       The castle can be reach by bus, taxi, foot, bike and nowadays also by cable car. Marcus and I have vistied the castle many times, always by foot or bike, but this time we had Chiara with us and thought it would be fun to go by cable car. (17 Euro for the three of us one way). The cable car ride takes a couple of minutes and is a very beautiful short trip. We went by foot back to the centre, a very beautiful descend where you pass lots of colorful flowers and cute houses, always with an amazing backdrop with the harbour and the city. Borgen kan nås med buss, taxi, till fots, på cykel och numera även med linbana. Jag och Marcus har besökt borgen många gånger, alltid till fots eller med cykel, men den här gången hade vi Chiara med oss och tyckte att det skulle vara kul att åka linbana. (17 euro för oss tre enkel väg). Linbanan tar ett par minuter och är en väldigt fin kort tripp. Vi gick till fots tillbaka till centrum, en väldigt vacker väg där man passerar massor av färgglada blommor och söta hus, alltid med hamnen och staden som fantastisk kuliss.      Just below the castle is the Kizil Kule, the Red Tower, and the old shipyard. The shipyard and tower were both built in 1220s, and the mission of the tower was to protect the shipyard. The building is 33 meters high and houses a museum, and sometimes different exhibitions. The shipbuilding and repair works continued until years of 1960s, and today the shipyard is a museum. We visited the shipyard, which was a nice experience, although not very comprehensive. Strax nedanför slottet ligger Kizil Kule, Röda tornet och det gamla skeppsvarvet. Varvet och tornet byggdes båda på 1220-talet, och tornets uppdrag var att skydda varvet. Byggnaden är 33 meter hög och inrymmer ett museum, och ibland olika utställningar. Skeppsbyggandet och reparationsarbetet fortsatte fram till 1960-talet, och idag är varvet ett museum. Vi besökte varvet, vilket var en trevlig upplevelse, dock inte så omfattande.         The harbour Hamnen     Last weekend in July, the yearly Saltvik Viking Market took place on Åland. It is one of the largest in Europe, and it attracts a lot of visitors. Chiara finds the vikings interesting, so after we had visited Föglö this year we took the boat crossing Lumparn to Kvarnbo in Saltvik. At the market you can stroll around the accommodations, see vikings performing handicrafts (and maybe buy some too), watching Holmgers Hird and other viking warriors battle, and laughing at the jester Zack. If you visit the market with children, they can take part of Sagas Plundringståg (Saga's raid), where children can test different viking inspired handicrafts and take home what they have made. At different places around the market Saga has also hidden some runes, which in the end should be combined to a word. If you solve the word nice prices are waiting! If you get hungry, you can try different food and drinks in stalls and a longhouse. We didn't try anything (except for roasted almonds) this time, but the food looked nice and we found the prices very good. If you look for something even more special, one evening you can try whole grilled pork accompanied with atmospheric music in the longhouse. Sista helgen i juli ägde Saltviks årliga vikingamarknad rum på Åland. Den är en av de största i Europa, och lockar många besökare. Chiara tycker att det är intressant med vikingarna, så efter att vi hade besökt Föglö i år tog vi båten över Lumparn till Kvarnbo i Saltvik. På marknaden kan du strosa runt de olika boendena, se vikingar utföra hantverk (och kanske köpa något), se Holmgers Hird och andra vikingakrigare strida och skratta åt gycklaren Zack. Besöker du marknaden med barn kan de vara med på Sagas Plundringståg, där barn kan testa olika vikingainspirerade hantverk och ta hem det de har gjort. På olika ställen runt marknaden har Saga också gömt några runor, som i slutändan ska kombineras till ett ord. Om du löser ordet väntar fina priser! Blir du hungrig kan du prova olika maträtter och dryck i stånd och ett långhus. Vi testade ingenting (förutom brända mandlar) den här gången, men maten såg god ut och vi tyckte att priserna var väldigt bra. Om du är ute efter något ännu mer speciellt kan du en kväll prova helgrillad gris ackompanjerat av stämningsfull musik i långhuset.      Sagas Plundringståg       Stalls with food and the "restaurant" Knarren    Whole grilled pork   After the market we visited the church and enjoyed the beautiful evening in the small harbour in Kvarnbo. Efter marknaden besökte vi kyrkan och njöt av den vackra kvällen i den lilla hamnen i Kvarnbo.    A cool ship welcomed us in the harbour    A good choice if you travel with kids and like to run. Ett bra val om du reser med barn och gillar att springa.            On our way down to Toblach we had a stop in Nürnberg, a place we haven't visited before. It turned out to be a very nice place, although we had huge problems finding a parking place. Our car, with a roof box on, is too high for almost every parking garage, and if you wanted to stay on the street, you could just park for two hours. Finally, after 1,5 hours, we found a place, a bit ironically, in the street next to our hotel :) På väg ner till Toblach gjorde vi ett stopp i Nürnberg, en plats vi inte besökt tidigare. Det visade sig vara en väldigt trevlig stad, även om vi hade enorma problem med att hitta en parkeringsplats. Vår bil, med takbox på, är för hög för nästan varje parkeringshus och om man ville parkera på gatan kunde man bara parkera i två timmar. Till sist, efter 1,5 timme, hittade vi en plats, lite ironiskt nog på gatan bredvid vårt hotell :)  After having parked our car we were three excited persons who were finally heading for a nice stroll in the summer warmth (27 degrees). We were all thirsty and hungry, so we took a stop at a café for a glass of wine with some bread and an ice cream for Chiara, so nice! Efter att ha parkerat vår bil var vi tre som var taggade på att äntligen få promenera runt lite i sommarvärmen (27 grader). Vi var alla törstiga och hungriga, så vi tog ett stopp på ett café för ett glas vin med lite bröd och en glass till Chiara, väldigt trevligt!   After the stop we went to the main market square with the town hall and the beautiful fountain "Schöner Brunnen ", which means, sursprisingly, beautiful fountain :) And along the way we passed many nice half-timbered houses. Efter stoppet gick vi till det stora marknadstorget med rådhuset och den vackra fontänen "Schöner Brunnen", vilket betyder, överraskande nog, vacker fontän :) Och längs vägen passerade vi många fina korsvirkeshus.    Then we headed for the tower Neutorturm, the city walls and the castle Kaiserburg with its garden. Chiara would have liked to go inside, but unfortunately the castle had closed for the day, so we just enjoyed it from the outside. Sedan begav vi oss mot tornet Neutorturm, stadsmuren och slottet Kaiserburg med sin trädgård. Chiara hade gärna gått in, men tyvärr hade slottet stängt för dagen, så vi beundrade det bara utifrån.        Very nice view from the castle After all the strolling we went for a typical German dinner: wienerschnitzel, different sausages, potato salad together with beer and weissbier (wheat beer). Interesting to try the different sausages, and most of them tasted very good. Efter allt promenerande åt vi en typisk tysk middag: wienerschnitzel, olika korvar, potatissallad tillsammans med öl och weissbier (veteöl). Intressant att prova de olika korvarna, och de flesta smakade väldigt gott.     Then it was lovely to take a walk back to the hotel in the summer night (although it was beginning of October). I really had hoped for a day like this, when I booked this stop in Nürnberg. A nice stroll in the city with a typical German dinner ending the day in nice warm weather, but I didn't expect it to be this warm as it was still October. We were really lucky! Sedan var det väldigt härligt att promenera tillbaka till hotellet i sommarnatten (även fast det var början på oktober). Jag hade verkligen hoppats på en sådan här dag när jag bokade stoppet i Nürnberg. En trevlig promenad i stan med en typisk tysk middag som avslutning på dagen i vackert, varmt väder, men jag förväntade mig inte att det skulle bli så varmt eftersom det ändå var oktober. Vi hade verkligen tur!  Interesting sign when it is October (Summer garden open/Sommaträdgården öppen)      Jan Karlsgården is an open-air museum, that with is over 20 different buildings gives you a picture of what a farm on Åland farm could have looked like during the second half of the 19th century. Here you can stroll around the different buildings, and take a look inside the manor house, the barn, a bakehouse etc. Children can also ride a horse and sit in the carriage, walk on stilts and have fun on the sea-saws. Jan Karlsgården är ett friluftsmuseum, som med sina över 20 olika byggnader ger dig en bild av hur en åländsk bondgård kunde se ut under andra hälften av 1800-talet. Här kan du promenera runt bland de olika byggnaderna, och de en titt inuti mangårdsbyggnaden, ladugården, bagarstugan med mera. Barn kan också rida på en häst och sitta i vagnen, gå på styltor och gunga gungbräde.       Vita Björn is today a prison museum, but the building has a history of both detention and prison that goes 200 years back in time. Until 1975, the building housed prisoners, but under significantly more humane conditions than in the 18th century. It is interesting to stroll around and see how the cells have changed, and how, for example leg irons and other things looked like earlier. Vita Björn är idag ett fängelsemuseum, men byggnaden har en historia av häkte och fängelse som sträcker sig 200 år tillbaka i tiden. Ända fram till 1975 sätt fångar här, dock under betydligt humanare förhållanden än på 1700-talet. Det är intressant att strosa runt och se hur cellerna ändrat skepnad, och hur t.ex. fotbojor och annat såg ut tidigare.   After a couple of hours sightseeing and fun we had lunch in the boat before heading back home. A really nice day to remember Efter ett par timmar av sightseeing och lek år vi lunch i båten innan vi åkte tillbaks hem. En väldigt fin dag att titta tillbaka på   |
