The launch of the galeas Emelia

Last week we went out at sea with our own boat to watch the launch of the galeas Emelia.

Theconstruction of the galeas began in 2018 at the Maritime Quarter in Mariehamn, using oak timber supplied from Denmark. In the years leading up to her launch on 25 July this year, all major structural work on the vessel was completed, with the exception of the interior, engine, technical systems, and rigging. The remaining work will be carried out during the autumn of 2026 and the spring and summer of 2027, before Emelia embarks on her maiden voyage.

The galeas is 25.6 metres long and will feature both a galley, where meals can be prepared, and sleeping accommodation for 27 people. Emelia will also be equipped with two masts and at least eight sails of various sizes.

Förra veckan åkte vi ut med vår egen båt för att se sjösättningen av galeasen Emelia.

Galeasen började byggas 2018 i sjökvarteret i Mariehamn av ek som levererats från Danmark. Under åren fram tills sjösättningen 25 juli i år har allt på galeasen färdigställts förutom inredning, motor, teknik och rigg. Resterande arbete kommer att ske under hösten 2026 och våren och sommaren 2027 innan dess jungfrufärd väntar.

Galeasen är 25,6 meter lång och kommer att ha plats för både en kabyss, där måltider tillreds, och kojplatser för 27 personer. Emelia kommer också att få två master och minst åtta segel i olika storlekar.
